Ukranian Libertarians?

From Discoshaman's always appreciated Ukranian roundup:

- One of the new minor parties here in Ukraine is the “Freedom Party.” They’ve announced they’ll be taking part in the 2006 elections. They’re a self-described Centrist party which mates left-wing social stances with right-wing positions on nationalist issues. So far they support Yushchenko, but have declared a willingness to go into Opposition depending on the decisions the government makes along the way.

So Ukraine may have a functional libertarian party? Can't say I'm not jealous.

Okay, so I know you're a libertarian (I would be too if the party weren't so CRAAAAAZY, see The Zero Boss' comment) -- are you a Uke too? Just curious! Lots of Ukrainians around these parts . . . many friends . . . I like to think of them as Italians (like me) with the added ability of holding their liquor.

Not Ukranian... Polish. But the wife hails from Belarus, about 80 miles from the Ukranian border. So, it's more of a deep regional interest than a direct one.

As for the LP... espousing libertarian positions while people associate them with that joke of an organization is kind of like having people judge you and your family after meeting that Crazy Aunt Ethel who hides in the attic with her undies on her head calling 911 every ten minutes to tell them about the mutant bunnies taking over the town.

How did you hear about my aunt? Man, Roxy's a small town!

Seriously, it is a shame about the Libertarian Party - some are speculating an upcoming rift in the Republican party with libertarian-esque members like Ahnold, Guiliani and McCain splitting off . . . would be nice! Maybe after the Dems completely self-destruct we can have such a split. I'd really like to not have to be in the same party as Robert Novak.
